Orkut or Facebook ?

Well this sounds to be an interesting topic to write about  So let’s get started..

About Orkut:

As per Wiki the Social network Orkut is owned and managed by Google, Google initially tried purchasing Friendster.com but the offer was declined by that company. This led Google to develop its own social network website and the website is named after its creator,Google employee Orkut Büyükkökten.

Orkut is really famous in Brazil & India which resulted in Google hosting the site from Brazil instead of California, US.

About Facebook:

   I know by this time most of you should know about Facebook and its co-founder Mark Zuckerberg. Many thanks to the movie “The social network” which briefly explains how Mark came up with this idea of Facebook and how infamously he was sued by his college roommates

Facebook one of the largest social network site which has more than 500 million active users worldwide and one active user in GreenlandJ. Initially the site was available only for Harvard later got expanded to other colleges and finally to the entire world.

Now is that we have covered the brief history of Facebook and Orkut, lets discuss the interesting part which one is best?

My vote is for Facebook, I personally feel that Facebook is much better than Orkut (No offence) and as much more features to offer to its user comparing to Orkut. One of the reasons why everyone uses Facebook is because of this Privacy feature and that is also one of the reasons why I prefer Facebook  though Orkut has this feature it is not enabled by default and GUI is not as interactive as Facebook.

Facebook also allows other 3rd party application to host in it sites, which results in greater & wider experience for its users…

One of the reasons why I still use Orkut is because of my co-workers and friends in order to get in touch with them  but rest is all assured that i spend most of my time in Facebook.

So does that mean that Orkut has come to an end? No, personally I feel that Google can bounce back by bringing in much more attractive user-interface and other loads of feature which includes privacy be default…
